Cole Haan, the brand created by Eddie Haan and Tifton Cole, was developed to be strictly a men’s footwear design. It then grew into a global brand where it expanded to include women’s footwear, hosiery, handbags, outerwear, among other accessories. The Cole Haan women’s shoe collection reads a little older, and a bit more mature than other brands. They are meant for women who need to look professional in a work environment, but don’t want to sacrifice their sense of style. These shoes are for the Boss Babe who wants to run a Fortune 500 company without looking dowdy. These shoes are for women who want to command a room and look good doing it. So, Heelistas, this is my list of 7 Perfect Pumps from Cole Haan that will help you get ahead.
THE LEXINGTON PUMP 85
Cole Haan’s Lexington pump is an absolute stunner.
They are pointed toed high heeled mules that features a unique combination of materials. The toe is created from supple black vachetta leather, and there’s a thing strap made of black nubuck, which is a buffed-out suede. The top strap, near the ankle, and the heel are wrapped in black lizard print. It’s a great reimagining of the black pump that makes it bold, and definitely more interesting than the average shoe. If you’re into something a little more glamorous, then there is a rare version of this shoe that has the lizard pattern replaced with a black and white dotted pattern.
What I love about this pump is that the brand took the time to extend that pattern all the way down the heel stem instead of just stopping at the base. The continuity of that makes the shoe more luxe, the heel height stands at 3 ½ inches, which is a little bit taller than the average heel. The sole of the shoe is made of leather, and the foot bed is made of cushioned leather. You shouldn’t have any trouble walking long distances in these, however, you might want to invest in some small foot petals for the balls of your feet if you start feeling any pain. You can find both versions of these shoes on Amazon for a pretty good deal. They’re also on sale on the Cole Haan site itself.
- Making a killer first impression
- Dominating that business meeting
- Business consultations
Wear with a tailored suit to give off the complete Boss Babe vibe.
THE HIGHLINE PUMP
The Highline Pump from Cole Haan’s line for women also features a mix of prints and materials.
It’s a modest 3 inches, pointed toe, and a d’orsay pump. If you’re unfamiliar with the word “d’orsay” it just means that it’s a type of shoe that’s been cut to (or close to) the heel. There are two separate styles for this shoes. The first one has a patent tortoise patterned toe and heel stem with a black leather patent heel. The second style features a lizard print at the toe and heel stem with a dusky lavender leather heel.
This shoe works great if you want to command a room, and have to do a lot of walking up and down. My favorite feature of this look is how a sliver of the tortoise comes up the inside of the side of the heel, while the black leather flows down the outside of the shoe in an incredible yin yang effect. These shoes also come with a padded footpad, so I don’t think you would need any insoles. However, if you have sensitive feet then a thin insole would be perfect. You can find the tortoise version on Zappos, and both versions on 6pm.com
- Chic Professor looks
- Brunch meetings
- “not so casual Fridays”
Pair these with a t-shirt, blazer, and dark wash fitted jeans for a relaxed business savvy look.
THE DIEDRA PUMP 85MM II
The Diedra Cole Haan pump is a smart and elegant take on nude heels.
It’s made of patent leather, and has a 3-inch heel height. The sole and insole are made of leather as well. However, the outsole of the shoe is made of synthetic material for easy gripping. My favorite part of this shoe is the belt detail on top of the toe. It’s made of the same patent leather, and the buckle is a gold colored metallic that is embossed with the Cole Haan logo. This pump is only lightly padded, so, Heelistas, if you want to wear this shoe for long hours I definitely suggest you invest in some heavily padded insoles.
Reviewers say that this shoe does run narrow and small so I would go up half a size, and maybe try it on in the store to see if the wide fit would suit you. These shoes are for when you want to show off your feminine side, but still want to show off a strong profile. I, personally, would only wear these if I’m trying to make a good first impression with a potential business client, and I would bring a change of heels. These pumps are supposed to look good, but they might not feel the most comfortable. You can find these shoes both at Amazon and 6pm.com.
- Creating a good, fashionable impression
- Bringing out your feminine side
Wear with heel inserts and insoles as these shoes will pinch (but it’s worth it, I promise)
ELIZA GRAND PUMP 85MM
Cole Haan’s Eliza Grand Pump are the laborers of shoe work. They’re simple, elegant, and are the everyman of the pump world. The Eliza Grand is the basic pump. No fluff, no extra design, just super simple, and very underrated.
Heelistas, this is the shoe that you turn to when you honestly can’t think of anything else to wear, or when your outfit is so incredible that only a basic silhouette can really pull your whole look together. These are the shoes you wear when you want to show off that statement jacket, or the one-of-a-kind vintage designer pants you found at the thrift store. The Eliza Grand has a 3.5 heel height, and comes in a variety of materials.
The most common you’ll see floating around on the internet will be the suedes, which come in black, nude, camel brown, fuchsia, red, and a pearl grey. I have seen patent leather nude and black shoes on Poshmark and DSW.com. If none of those strike you as interesting and you’re begging for a statement shoe, then Zappos does have a floral on black patent leather version that’s on sale.
- Letting your outfit do the talking
- Everyday work shoes
Wear with outfits that have a lot going on (clashing patterns, bright colors, or a bold silhouette) so that you stand out… in a good way
THE RENDON PUMP II
The Rendon Pump II from the Cole Haan collection oozes sex appeal. It has a similar style to the Highline, but they sit a little taller at 3 ¼ inches high rather than 3 inches. Both shoes also have that d’orsay and comes with two contrasting materials, but that is the extent of their similarities. The Highline has the vamp cutting across at a straight line, while the Rendon Pump II dips lower to form a rounded rectangle.
The toe of the pump comes in a midnight black suede, and the heel and heel stem are a metallic, glittery, bronze. At the top of the there is a gold metallic gem with the embossed logo on it. I could without that detail as it doesn’t seem to add anything to the shoe (it doesn’t match the two colors), and it doesn’t really belong there other than it being a brand stamp. Other than that blip I really like this pump. Reasons why you’ll want this shoe over The Highline: it has a taller heel, the price is a fraction of The Highline, and design is a little more intricate.
However, the bronze/black combination is the only version I could find of the Rendon Pump II, so if you want variety, then you can seek out the Rendon Pump I, which has several colors or the aforementioned Highline. If you want to seek out this shoe, then head over to 6pm.com. If you want to see if you like the previous version, then head over to DSW.com.
- Anything super elegant
- Showing off toe cleavage
Wear with cropped satin pants to show off the curvy vamp
THE HARLOW OPEN TOE PUMP
The Harlow Open Toe Pump is Cole Haan’s take on the peep-toe pump. Normally, this type of shoe isn’t really my jam, because I prefer to either have my heels open or closed toed. Not some mix in between. I do like this shoe though. It has a 3.5-inch stiletto, the pump is made of supple leather, and has both a leather sole and insole. The foot bed is cushioned, so insoles won’t be necessary unless you happen to like that extra bit of comfort. You might get a little pinching at the peep toe (the main reason why I don’t like them) so invest in some bandages to protect your toes. What sells me on this shoe is the bottom detailing, which is a rich brown color. They remind me of Louboutin’s, and they give the shoe something that sets them very far apart from the rest of the pack. These shoes come in two colors: an eggshell cream and black. Heelistas, for the love of all things shoes, please get a pedicure before wearing this shoe. Nothing ruins a perfect look than giving the public a sneak peek of your chipped toe polish. These shoes are perfect for subtle glamour and understated elegance.
- Cheating at an all-white party
- Wine parties
Wear this with an all cream suit to make that outer sole pop. *Remember to paint your toenails*
THE ANTOINETTE GRAND PUMPS
As you well should know, I have saved my favorite, and honestly the best, for last. This is Cole Haan’s Antoinette Grand pump. Giving this pump the regal name Antoinette was so spot on, because this shoe is extraordinary. With a 4-inch heel height, and a pointed toe it should look like any other pump. The details in this shoe, though, make them look utterly remarkable. The shoe cap is perforated leather in a cascading pattern allowing the flesh of the foot to peek through subtly. The shoe doesn’t quite feature a d’orsay, but it’s notched at the outer quarter for extra flash of style. This pump is all leather and, so far, comes in several different styles.
The most basic of the styles is an all-black: the outer shoe and the bottoms are black. The others have far more interesting color palettes. The Cole Haan website has the shoe in a style called Silver Energy where the outer leather is a patent silver, and the soles and bottoms are black. My favorite style comes in a camel brown with a red sole, and black bottoms. There’s a more subtle grey tone, and another black version with blue soles. If you want any color other than the silver then you will have to do some digging. My favorite part of this shoe is the sole, obviously.
It’s specifically engineered to keep you comfortable, and the cherry on top is that pop of color. Other people might not be able to see it, but it’s a nice secret to give me that extra confidence boost. Poshmark has several of these pumps on their website, and I found a couple for sale on Ebay. Please use an extra amount of caution when buying from these kinds of websites because there are a ton of counterfeits out there, but the risk is well worth the reward if you do your research.
- Special occasions
- Making a statement
Wear with a high waisted leather skirt and a loose cotton blouse with horned rimmed glasses to look bookworm chic
That’s the list. my lovely Heelistas. 7 Perfect Pumps from Cole Haan is definitely geared more for the professional woman with its more conservative design. If you want to rock the boardroom, and wow them with your brilliant mind and your killer sense of style, then this is most definitely the brand for you. They do offer some trendy pieces, but where they truly shine are the fashion staples that you’ll be wearing for years to come. These pumps are built for long wear and comfort that fits the lifestyle of a 9-5er. If you’re a woman on the go then I highly advise you get a pair (or two) of these shoes and become the workplace diva you were always meant to be.
