So! You’re thinking about purchasing from Cole Haan hmm?
Well lucky for you, we wanted to give you a little bit of help with this full Cole Haan buying guide for all your wants and needs. Started in 1928 and formerly a part of Nike, Cole Haan was originally strictly a men’s footwear label, but later expanded into becoming one of the leading U.S footwear brands with women’s footwear, accessories and clothing. If you probably run a search on the internet for reviews on Cole Haan, you most likely will run into multiple articles and reviews on them, but with one slight issue. They’re talking about their men’s footwear. Makes sense, right since they originally were a men’s footwear line, but that doesn’t help us heelistas out there looking for the details.
You may have gotten familiar with the Cole Haan brand if you are a big follower of athlete’s, designers or influential masterminds. As Cole Haan has grown significantly over the years, they have gained most of their traction through incorporating very big collaborations to their brand, including Maria Sharapova and the New York City Ballet, so they are not shy at all about the press. But now since they’ve got our attention, what’s the hype about the actual products? Well, let’s get started!
The Cole Haan brand is mostly known for having versatile designs and unique materials with their footwear. While many people would consider Cole Haan a “safe’ brand, others consider it a lifesaver as they have many different options for every day wear shoes. From casually walking, to work to dinner at night, Cole Haan will have a footwear style that will fit your busy every day for the best price.
We’re not only praising the fact that the shoes are extremely practical, we’re also praising the fact that they’re practical and available, meaning, they are good quality shoes for the best deal. Cole Haan shoes, bags, and accessories are very chic and modern, but for the best price and you won’t ever have to worry about wondering if you’re getting a good deal.
So, my lovely heelistas, now that we’ve broken down the basics of the Cole Haan brand, we’re going to get into the specifics of each product. We’re going to break it down by category, so let’s go ahead and get started!
Who is Cole Haan For
Even though you probably are reading this blog because you are already interested in Cole Haan products, it’s important to know who the brand is actually for, so you can get a feel of what you should be expecting. While you may have already seen a few products, you know that Cole Haan products fit a wide variety of women (and men but we’re not talking about them here!) because of its super versatile shoe designs and selection.
Cole Hann products are for the woman on the go. Whether you work that 9-5 job every day or are a student and need a few pairs of go-to shoes for that dreaded 8AM class, you will find what you are looking for from Cole Haan. I like to consider it a “one-stop shop” for all your shoe and accessory needs, however I would look to Cole Haan if I’m looking for basic elements of my wardrobe, like a pair of heels that can be worn with any outfit, day to night, or a handbag I can take to the mall, to class and on vacation.
This is where I might hook ya! Not only can you always find what you are looking for, you can find it for a decent price point as well! While it’s not discount prices, their shoes run in the $100-$300 range, their bags run anywhere from $100-$600 with accessories staying on the lower end of the spectrum, and their outwear stays mainly in the $200-$700 range. These prices may seem intimidating to some, but let’s dive into the specifics of all their products so you can get a feel of quality to price!
One of the biggest advantages of buying Cole Hann shoes is their incredible diverse shoe selection! They have everything from heels, to boots, to flats, to even boat shoes, who would’ve thought! Since the target of their brand is clearly delivering simple shoes for every day where, there is a style for everyone.
While Cole Haan tends to shy away from overly trendy styles (don’t be looking for Kim K’s clear booties here) they don’t shy away from edge. Among the sea of basics, which is never a bad thing by the way, they do tend to throw in a few very bold styles here and there, mainly in their heels department.
Not into heels? No problem (even though we definitely wish you were!) Out of my many years of shoe buying, I can tell you that Cole Haan is a breath of fresh hair because you will never have to go search high and low for cute flats, comfortable loafers and extra cute sneakers that aren’t Nike’s (but kind of are because they were a part of Nike, but we’ll just ignore that real quick).
Like I mentioned before, Cole Haan is best known for their versatile designs and unique materials. We’ve already covered who Cole Haan shoes are for and their selection, so let’s dig deeper into their materials. One of the most prominent materials used from their shoes is leather. Considering the majority of the materials used on their shoes is leather, they’ve put it upon themselves to come out with their own leather care products. I love love LOVE when brands do this, specifically because you can feel better knowing that the products were made within the same company and you know that they were essentially made for each other.
Let’s get to the nitty gritty here! We want to see how they fit and this is where it gets REALLY fun. Talk about a helpful site here, Cole Haan has their very own “True Fit” generator where you can find your perfect size for each and every shoe. All you have to do is type in your typical shoe size, how your calves run, foot arch and it will automatically show you what your recommended size is. You only have to input these items once and they will automatically show based off your fit profile, which is amazing, so you don’t have to keep typing and can see the difference between whether a boot or a heel runs true to size or if they recommend going half a size up.
Speaking of your true fit, if you are wondering if this fit guide works for those of you with either narrow or wide fit, it does! For each fit recommendation, you can expand the details and see whether or not a shoe will fit snug, loose or fit perfectly for whatever your foot desires. If you want to cut down on time and find the perfect shoe right away, they even have a section for extended widths, but let me tell you, on occasion there aren’t many extended width shoes to choose from compared to their overall selection, so this might take some digging if you’re looking for a specific shoe.
The accessories department is one of the more passed over sections of Cole Haan and I have a theory about that we’ll get to in a second, but if you’re looking for your staple pieces, once again, they take the cake. Cole Haan makes a selection of hand bags, wallets, belts, sunglasses, socks and tights, you name it. They all are pretty standard, and the quality is none the less amazing along with their shoes, however, their price points are a bit different.
Just from my general observation, the majority of Cole Haan accessories are made with their fine leather, which we all know runs pricier than the cheap stuff you’ll find in a Forever21 (not knocking my first love, but the stuff is pretty cheap). Their accessories, particularly their bags and wallets compare in price to brands like Coach, Dooney and Burke and Rebecca Minkoff which are fabulous brands, but are in that mid-tier level. There is a ton of competition in this space, especially with outlet stores popping up everywhere. So, while I don’t know exactly how well their sales of these items do, they are pricier than many of their popular shoes. Keep in mind that if you’re looking for the best deal for Cole Haan, an outlet might be the way to go, or wait until their items go on sale which, frequently do to counter-act the higher price point.
As I just mentioned the comparatively higher price point for their accessories to their shoes, the same goes for the outwear. Cole Haan doesn’t have a deep line for fashion, however if you decide to invest in a jacket or coat here and there, you will NOT be disappointed. The quality and fit of Cole Haan’s outerwear is so tremendous that I’m surprised not many people aren’t raving about it more! Or maybe they are, and I just am not aware since I live in a fairly hot climate.
If you are looking for your first leather jacket, Cole Haan is without a doubt a safe bet for the quality along. Remember that nifty size guide we used for the shoes? Surprise! You can also use it for clothes. You’ll do the same thing, type up your typical sizes and how your body runs and voila! You’ll have your custom fit in seconds.
